Argan oil has become a kind of synonym for beauty care and health, to women all around the world and it has found its place known as ‘liquid gold’ withi n Hollywood's beauty industry. Beauty conscious celebrities like Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie (to name but a few) know that this rare plant oil works like heaven on your skin and hair Argan oil will be sure to transform your nails from brittle to strong; your hair from dull to shiny and your skin from blotchy to clear and beautiful. Mixing it with essential oils and other natural wonders make great beauty products for yourself. If you don’t believe me, read on and try out these three easy home recipes. And don’t forget to make extra, because this will be the most authentic gift your loved ones have ever received for an extra special Christmas .

Ok so let’s start with cuticle and brittle nail issues. Most people don’t realize that many cuticle creams that you find in stores, contain so many chemicals that they are actually harmful to your nails. But not pure Argan oil, which is my absolute favorite becau se it absorbs so quickly without making everything like my face and clothes super greasy. And the fact is if your cuticles are not kept well moisturized, then they will be prone to break, crack and infect. Try out this Cuticle Cream Ointment which you can keep in your bathroom, in your kitchen, at your desk to apply on both your cuticles and brittle nails throughout the day.

If you don’t have a double boiler you can improvise by placing a small pot of water on the stovetop over medium heat. In a second pot, placed on the top of the first, combine 2 tablespoons Argan oil, 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil, 1 and a half tablespoons beeswax pellets and 2 tablespoons shea butter. Stir occasionally and allow to melt slowly. When fully melted, remove from heat and stir in 20 drops of lavender essential oil, 10 drops of tea tree essential oil and 10 drops of lemon essential oil. Then quickly pour this into 1/2 oz tins, this will fill about 5 tins. Wait until completely cooled down to place on lids, then design your labels and enjoy. Homemade cuticle cream would make a personal gift that any woman would absolutely love to receive.

Are you battling with dry and dull hair? Do you blow dry every single day? Using Argan oil as a deep conditioner can help everyone get back a head of shiny vibrant hair. In a small mason jar combine: 4 teaspoons of Argan oil, 2 teaspoons Epsom salt, 2 teaspoons honey, 4 teaspoons coconut oil, 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar, 3 drops peppermint essential oil and mix well. Design your label to include directions:

To use, shake well, and apply the conditioner especially to the damaged ends of your hair, then wrap your hair in a warm towel. After 30 minutes, rinse your hair thoroughly. If you love this product consider making several batches to give to your friends this Christmas, use your imagination decorating your mason jars and have fun!

Create your own Argan oil facial serum to keep your face hydrated this Christmas. Simply mix 15 drops of frankincense essential oil and 15 drops lavender essential oil in 2 oz of Argan oil. Mix well by shaking and keep in a dark amber glass bottle with an eyedropper. You’ll need four drops for your face, once or twice a day. You can use and appreciate this oil or give it away to your friends, or even better do both! Either way you will feel like gold this festive season. Merry Christmas!

Research on Tea Tree Oil

The medicinal and health properties of tea tree has been known for many centuries through the knowledge of generations in native communities of Australia. More recently university studies have led us to further understand the benefits of this natural plant extract.

Tea tree oil has been a subject of much study among st scientists for many years. Extracted from the Melaleuca Tree, is indigenous to Northern Australia.

Arthur Penfold, a phytochemist became the curator of the Technological Museum in Sydney. He dedicated his life to studying volatile oils and the ir properties. Volatile oils are oils from plants. He did extensive research on tea tree oil and in 1923 discovered that tea tree oil was thirteen times stronger than carbolic acid. Carbolic acid at that time was a widely used disinfectant. Subsequently, in 1930 Arthur Penfold discovered the amazing the antiseptic and antimicrobial properties of tea tree oil. Much of the knowledge we know about tea tree oil can be attributed to Arthur Penfold’s work.

Research on tea tree oil still continues today. There are small studies being done by many scientists but one of the largest studies is being done by a resea ch group at the University of Western Australia. They’re conducting research to determine the extent of tea tree oil’s properties as an antimicrobial and an anticancer. The researchers have found that tea tree oil has many qualities to help battle different types of bacteria.

Some of the main topics of research include:

● How tea tree oil affects bacteria.

● Determining whether bacteria can become resistant to tea tree oil.

● Experimenting with the use of tea tree oil as a hand wash.

Recent studies have found that tea tree oil is effective in cleaning wounds and treating cold sores. Ongoing research is being conducted on whether tea tree oil is effective at treating MRSA, more commonly known as staph. Staph can occur if an infection occurs during surgery. There has been some evidence showing that tea tree oil can treat staph but more research needs to be done with a larger te st group.

Tea tree oil is also being studied as an anti-cancer. Researchers believe that tea tree oil can inhibit tumor cell growth. They’re still studying this possibility of how tea tree oil affects the tumor and how it may be used to treat cancerous tumors.

Tea tree oil has been an interesting topic of research in the past and present. While, currently there may not be any conclusions on certain studies. We do know that tea tree oil is beneficial as an antimicrobal and antibacterial agent. We hope that these ongoing studies will help determine other benefits of using this amazing volatile oil.

Daily Uses of Frankincense

When I first got Frankincense essential oil I was so excited, I wanted to get into the habit of incorporating it into my daily routine. This turned out to be really easy, so before long I was noticing the difference on my skin and now, I save loads of money.

With Frankincense I no longer had to buy expensive beauty products, lotions and creams. I would love everyone to discover the secret to natural beauty and the many benefits, (besides saving money) so here are a few tips just for you!

The first thing I did was add a couple of drops to my existing moisturizer which felt particularly soo thing on my face. When I ran out, I ordered a tub of plain organic natural moisturizer online, I simply added my Frankincense and a drop or two of Lavender. I’m still using that tub! It has lasted such a long time.

Or you could try making your own luxurious anti-wrinkle cream which is relatively easy and inexpensive . The items you will need to make it are: ½ cup cocoa butter, ¼ cup organic coconut oil, ¼ cup sweet almond oil and 50 drops of frankincense. Using a double boiler melt your cocoa butter, coconut oil and sweet almond oil until they become liquid. Set the mixture in the fridge and let it set until it is so lid but not completely hard (about 20 minutes). Once solid, remove it and whip it using an electronic whisk. Add the Frankincense oil and whip more until the cream is soft and fluffy. Spoon it into a mason jar and use it twice a daily directly on your wrinkles.

If you have scars from acne try making this oil blend, use it daily to reduce their appearance. Mix together 1 tablespoon organic coconut oil, 3 drops of Frankincense, 3 drops of Lavender and 3 drops of Lemon. Keep the blend in a small glass bottle and massage in a couple drops at least twice a day.

Are you a dry skin sufferer? Frankincense oil has the power to strengthen and moisten your skin. To create a simple lotion combine ½ cup of organic coc onut oil, ¼ cup of pure Moroccan Argan oil, 4 drops of Frankincense and 2 drops of Lavender essential oil. Mix together well and keep in glass bottle, (preferably brown or blue to make it last longer). Apply as much as you need all over your body daily.

Create your own sugar scrub to use on your body. Be sides the skin exfoliating benefits of a sugar scrub (which leaves your skin silky smooth) it is also effective in reducing the signs of stretch marks and you can even use it if you experience symptoms of PMS. Combine ¾ cup raw sugar and ¼ cup of granulated sugar. Mix into the sugar 1/8 - 1/4 cup organic coconut oil. You want the mixture to have an oily consistency but not be too moist. Stir in 5-10 drop s of Frankincense oil.

Create a natural and effective vapor rub that you can use whenever you are congested. Using a double boiler, melt 1/8 cup beeswax with ½ cup of coconut oil; add the following oils: 25 drops of Tea Tree oil, 10 drops Rosemary, 5 drops Frankincense. Pour the mixture into small containers and let it set. Apply it to your chest and back when needed.

Make your very own Neosporin (used to treat minor wounds, cuts, scrapes, burns and to help prevent /treat mild skin infections) and not only save money but feel good about using a natural product to help heal without any side effects. So combine: 10 drops Frankincense, 10 drops Tea Tree oil, 10 drops Lavender oil and 5 ml witch hazel. Obtain a 10 ml container with a roller ball on top (you can buy the se online), put the mixture in the vial and use it when needed, as much as needed.

Nowadays with so many chemicals being added to everything, it’s extremely gratifying when you know exactly what is in a product and that it’s all totally natural. To be honest I feel like you can really only be totally safe when you have made it yourself. So have fun experimenting with all my favorite recipes and remember, nature knows best, so my advice is... go organic and natural!

The process of extracting the essential oil from the plant material is what makes an oil different from another. This process of extraction is called distillation. One method of distillation is through the use of steam.

To distil using steam and oil you must first obtain a still. A still is the apparatus used to distil. The still contains a heat source at the bottom which is used to heat water inside a holding tank. Also inside the holding tank is a grate that you place the plant product that you wish to distill. The holding tank is covered and then connected by piping to a condenser. The condenser collects the steam coming from the holding tank and it cools it. Finally the cooled steam goes through a separator with separates the essential oil from the water vapor. The separator is one of the most important parts of the distiller.

Next you harvest your plant material. Make sure to choose organic plants because pesticides and herbicides may contaminate the oil. Essential oils are found in the leaves, flowers, stems and other parts of the plant. It is important to take care when harvesting these plant materials so as not to release the oils before the process of distilling. Remember that a little bit of oil comes from a lot of plants. You will need to harvest a lot of plant material in order to get enough oil to use. After you harvest, you will want to hang the plant up to dry. After the plant is dried, place it in the holding tank of your still and boil water in order to start the distillation process. When the oil is extracted, store it in a dark glass bottler or a stainless steel bottle. This will ensure a longer shelf life.

As you can see, distillation is a long and difficult process. Some manufacturers cut corners in the distillation process in order to cut costs. When corners are cut, the oil may become adulterated, impure. To cut costs they may: speed up the distillation process, dilute the oil with other oils or even chemicals, re-use already used plant material and use plant material that has been treated with pesticides. The best way to extract pure, un-adulterated oil is thr ough a low and slow distillation. To fully extract the oil the process may take several hours at a low temperature. Some manufacturers, to create more oil in less time may speed up the process of distillation and not get the same, pure product. Many essential oil companies may dilute their oils with a carrier oil or even with added chemicals. Although the oils may still smell the same, they are dangerous to use in a therapeutic capacity. Some companies may use the same plant material and re-di still it several times before discarding it. This makes for a weak essential oil. Only use essential oils that have been distilled from organic plant components. If they are not organic, they may contain traces of pesticides and are thus harmful to use.

Recently Madonna said: “I can’t live without Morocc an Argan Oil.” In a few short years argan oil has skyrocketed to one of the most prized oils in t he western world. Today if you walk down the aisle of any drugstore, dozens of products now prof ess to contain argan oil, and claims abound as to its miraculous properties. But is it really t hat good? I decided to investigate.

The first issue I found, is that there are a lot of imitations out there. A lot of watered down argan oil claiming to be real. The trick is to look at the ingredients, you want the pure stuff. The ingredients should simply be: ‘’100% Argania Spino sa Kernel Oil’’. Honestly, if there’s anything else listed, you just don’t want it.

Now when you get your hands on the pure stuff, that’s when the magic happens. Bes ides its traditional culinary uses, local Moroccan woman have also used argan oil cosmetically for hundreds of years. They have used it as the main ingredient for their traditional beauty recipes, to protect their hair, skin and nai ls in a dry desert environment. Traditionally the oil has also been used medicinally, as a topica l oil to treat various skin ailments. The properties of this oil are definitely restorative and healing. However despite what some well-known brands are saying, to date there have not been big scale expen sive clinical trials, to back up what Moroccan women have known for centuries. Most clinical trial s have been focused on the culinary use of Argan oil(which has also revealed some astounding anti-cancer health be nefits) but little has been actually proven on the topical use of pure Argan oil. However, what we can do is break it down by examining the composition of the oil, and looking at the rese arch done on each of these compounds individually, which are found within Argan oil, to find out more.

So, pure Argan oil contains: vitamin E, essential fatty acids, prostag landin, phytosterols, polyphenols, ferulic acid and a whole lot of other precious compounds that ar e probably too much of a mouthful for you right now. It does sound complicated, but remember that each of these compounds are powerful, have specific functions that help your bo dy and have been proven to do so many times over. Firstly, argan oil is high in tocopherols (vitami n E ). Vitamin E is well known as the elixir of youth– a powerful antioxidant that slows down aging. It is important in protecting your body from harsh environmental conditions, such as s un exposure and pollution. It has been proven to significantly help in the reduction of sc arring from wounds and the appearance of stretch marks.

Argan Oil is 80% unsaturated essential fatty acids . The most abundant of which are Omega 9 (Oleic acid) and Omega 6 (Linoleic acid). T opically applying these can have a number of hugely positive effects on the skin. Fatty acids improve moisture retention and keep the skin elastic and firm. It has been proven that they are particularly healing to extreme dry skin problems like eczema.

Fatty Acids also play an extremely important role i n the formation of prostaglandin in our body, a natural anti-inflammatory that reduces pain, swelling and inflammation, while stimulating blood circulation. That’s why a massage with argan oil can be so effective for stiff arthritic joints and aching muscles.

Argan oil naturally contains phytosterols , which have anti-aging benefits because they encourage new collagen production in our body that is lost from sun exposure and aging. One of the contributing factors to aging is the breakdo wn and loss of collagen (the main component in connective skin tissue). As the body ages, it is not able to produce collagen as it once did. Though many skin care products and brands boast abo ut the fact that they contain collagen, the fact is, collagen is too large to be assimilate d directly through the skin. Taking a collagen pill is not the answer either, because your body will be unable to use it to build your collagen level. The most effective way (besides actually injecting collagen into your skin which is very painful and expensive) is to use phytosterols to boost your own body’s collagen production.

Argan oil is also rich in ferulic acid , a super antioxidant that is found in the cell walls of plants. Antioxidants prevent skin damage caused by free radicals and assist in skin repair and rejuvenation. And get this! Incredibly, this super antioxidant was found in a recent study to increase its activity when exposed to UV rays. Let’s get this right that actually means that it increases its activity the stronger the sun’s rays get! So, not only can it help protect your skin from future damage, but it will also help heal damage from the past.

My investigation continues but the evidence I already uncovered supports Madonna’s statement and a whole lot of other celebrities shou ting out the benefits of this rare plant oil. In fact Argan oil has now found its place known as ‘’liquid gold’’ within Hollywood's beauty industry. Get in on the secret and try the pure stuff on your skin, hair an d nails today! I promise, you won’t be disappointed

Aboriginal Uses for Tea Tree

Australian aboriginals were familiar with the terra in that they lived on. They understood that many plants and trees in their area, could be used for m any different purposes.

The tea tree is a large tree native to Australia. Native aboriginals identified many different species of the tea tree along with their medicinal properties. Properties absorbed int o the body through infusion, steaming and ointments. Each have their own therapeutic benefits enhancing the benefits of the plant extract.

To create an infusion, leaves and bark from the tea tree were gathered and crushed. Then placed in water to soak for several days. The longer it soake d, the more potent the infusion became. The infusion was then drunk or also used as bath water. This remedy was helpful in alleviating headaches, coughs, colds and fever. Infusions were also poured onto open wounds in order to cleanse them.

Steam was also an effective way that the aborigines used tea tree. The branches and leaves were crushed up and placed into boiling water. The patient would then inhale the rising steam and feel relief from headaches and congestion. Another method for administering steam was by placing the tea tree branches and leaves into a fire. The p atient would then squat over the fire while inhaling the steam which arose.

Ointments were also an effective way to help heal. The aborigines would crush up tea tree leaves and mix them with animal fat. This ointment would t hen be rubbed on the body to alleviate congestion or a fever.

Other ways that tea tree was administered was by ma king a bark or leaf tea. This consisted of boiling the leaves or bark in hot water. The leaves could then be crushed and the scent of the leaves could be directly inhaled. The crushed leaves could then be applied directly onto open wounds.

The bark of the tea tree is similar to paper which can be ripped, torn and folded easily making it useful as a bandage. The aboriginal people also use d tea tree bark in many non - medicinal uses. It was used to wrap food in to cook (similar to alumin ium foil used today), to fix holes in canoes, woven into sleeping mats and also used to produce s imple raincoats.

The power of the tea tree has been utilized for centuries by aboriginals. Tod ay, we have the ability to extract the oil from thi s amazing Melaleuca tree and use its medicinal powers whenever and wherever we may need it for therapeutic value. Either as a natural cleansing ag ent or for soothing of bites. It is also ideal to relieve aching muscles.

Skin Care

Guest Article - Thank you Nick Stokes of Uptown Spa

To most people, skin is purely esthetic organ, meant to show us in a good light. However, many individuals disregard the fact that skin is actually quite important part of human body. As our outer layer, it represents the first line of defense against all foreign agents. Besides that, it has some other purposes such as sense of touch and it helps us establish what is cold and hot thus warning us of imminent danger. When we are exposed to the sun, it absorbs sunrays transforming them into vitamin D. Also, it is important for stopping water inflow out of our body. Given all of its functions, it is necessary for us to perceive skin not only as something which makes us look good, but also as an organ which helps our body with numerous issues.

First thing which you need to know about your skin is that water and food are its best friends. By consuming enough water during the day, you make sure that your skin is fresh and healthy. Good nutrition is also very important for it. Like any other part of our body, it is important for us to consume different types of food so we can introduce various minerals and vitamins which can help us protect our skin and keep it healthy. Anyway, even if you don’t have enough of certain vitamin of mineral, you will be able to tell quite easily. When you don’t have enough water, or if your skin is not moisturized enough, you will experience itchy feeling (happens due to the dryness). Problems with minerals and vitamins can be noticed through discoloration, and often, red patches. It is always recommended to use cosmetic products which are made for your skin type. Also, any additional treatment in a spa or a beauty salon won’t hurt you. You can always try out one of the best beauty salons in Toronto, Uptown Spa in North York.

Besides internal factors, there are also some external elements which can negatively impact us. Our skin is meant to protect us from microbes, heat and cold. In that regard, as soon as we are exposed to a hostile environment, your skin will register it, and it will be shown by surface changes. For example, you can develop blisters. Although our body can take certain amount of punishment, try not to overdo it. Some of the advices which can help you is to carry lip balm during cold weather, not to overexpose yourself during sunny day, don’t shower with a really hot water and try to wash away all cosmetic products after you showered or after you washed your hair.

Some of the issues you may develop are not only due to a harsh environment or malnutrition. There are certain issues such as acne which can persist for almost entire life. In those cases, like in a case of any other medical condition, it is necessary to contact your doctor. Have in mind that you need to be persistent with skin because most of the treatments require a longer period of time until they bear fruit.

One of the best ways to experience the power of essential oils is to diffuse the oil into the air. There are several benefits to diffusing essential oils.

Depending on the type of oil you diffuse, you can experience:

·         Cleaner and purer air

·         An elated mood

·         Increased concentration and focus

·         Reduced stress

·         An immunity boost

There are four main types of diffusers on the market today. While they range in price and function, they all have the power to take your essential oil of choice and disperse it throughout your home. These four types of diffusers are: ultrasonic, nebulizing, heat and evaporative. We will explore each kind of diffuser so that you can make an informed decision when looking to purchase a diffuser to use in your home.

With the ultrasonic diffuser, you add your essential oil and water into the diffuser. Through the use of ultrasonic vibrations, the oil is broken down into microscopic particles which are then dispersed, with the water in the form of a mist. Not only does this diffuser spread your essential oil throughout the room, the mist creates a nice humidifier as well. The downfall to this kind of diffuser is that it only diffuses a small amount of oil and thus you will have to run the diffuser for longer in order to fully feel the effects of the diffused oil.

Unlike the ultrasonic diffuser, the nebulizing diffuser diffuses the oil without the use of water. This kind of diffuser quickly saturates the air around it and you only need to run it for about 15 minutes per hour. This the most therapeutic style of diffuser.

An evaporative diffuser contains a pad on which you put several drops of your essential oil. There is a fan that then blows over top of the oil causing it to evaporate into the room. This type of diffusion is less therapeutic because by evaporating the oil, you are separating the components of the oil. By doing this method of diffusing, you are causing the oil to be less volatile than it is in its whole form.

A heat diffuser uses heat to cause the oil to evaporate. This type of diffuser is not as therapeutic as the ultrasonic or nebulizing diffuser for the same reason as the evaporative diffuser. If you do choose to purchase this kind of diffuser, make sure to choose a low-heat diffuser instead of a high-heat diffuser as high heat can actually alter the chemical components of the oil. This type of diffuser is silent and impressively economical.

The use of a good diffuser will help you feel the benefits of your essential oils without physically applying the oil. You will be able to purify the air in your home and help protect your family from the effects of airborne diseases.

My husband actually bought this excellent lavender oil for me. I'm a certified massage therapist and I use a LOT of essential oils in my practice. Many over the years have been pretty bad quality but WellnesScent, to my happy surprise, is excellent and very potent.
